Let’s Meet in the Piazza!

March 8, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm

We will explore the philosophical approach to using Learning Stories as a formative assessment of children’s development. The authenticity of these narratives relies on an early childhood curriculum that reflects the holistic way children learn and grow. The inspiration for these stories is rooted in the philosophy and practices of:  Te Whariki – National Early Childhood Curriculum – New Zealand.

Our first Zoom conversation focused on the context in which these Learning Stories have evolved. We’ll have the opportunity to hear from Dr. Sonja de Groot Kim (NJEEPRE Board member), who has graciously offered to share the experience and knowledge she gained from visits to centers in New Zealand.

Wendy Lee says, “I am not preparing children for school, I am preparing children for life.”

In this session we will view Part 3 0f Learning Story: Conversations with Wendy Lee https://educationalleadershipproject.uscreen.io/categories/learning-story-conversations-with-wendy-lee  and spend time reflecting and discussing aspects of their and our own curriculum.

Thoughts to mull over:  How can we begin to consider the Te Whariki curriculum strands of  Belonging, Well-Being, Exploration, Communication and Contribution in our own work with children and families?  How do they compare with/differ from other approaches we might be more familiar with?

To help support one another in this learning process, we suggest that you view other parts of the Learning Stories independently prior to our Zoom conversation.

We are looking forward to a lively and thoughtful conversation!

Email info@newjerseyreggionetwork.org to Join the conversation. Please include your name, affiliation and preferred email. This is a FREE event –  Invite a friend/colleague to join you and introduce them to NJEEPRE!
